January 16, 2011 Long-Stitch Binding Workshop

Come and learn about the art of book making!
Sunday, January 16, 2011
2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Create Here, 55 East Main Street, Chattanooga TN

There are many ways to bind a book, but long stitch binding can be one of the most beautiful.  In this method, pages are sewn together with long stitches through the book spine, which allows for the opportunity to add decorative flourishes.

Nora Bernhardt, book artist and founder of CBAC, will discuss this technique and lead the workshop in making a long stitch book.

Supply list (bring these materials with you to the workshop):
  1. Cover material: 2 pieces of book board or matte board, cut to 5-3/4" x 4-3/8"
  2. Spine material: 1 piece of book board or matte board, cut to 5-3/4" x 3/4"
  3. Covering for the outside of the book: 1 sheet of bookcloth or decorative paper, cut to 8" x  12"
  4. Contrasting covering for the spine (optional): 1 sheet of bookcloth or decorative paper, cut to 8" x 2-1/2"
  5. Paper to line the inside covers of the book: 1 sheet of decorative or solid paper, cut to 5-1/2" x 9-1/4"
